When looking back on a career it is easy to see the turning points - all of which were much less obvious at the time! The biggest indicators in mine have been when I have taken a truly big risk, normally by taking a role that both challenges and scares in equal measure. Such roles stretch one, and allow you to achieve more than you would have believed otherwise.
Another key turning point was realising that one is nothing without good people, that they are hard to find, and understanding that you have them for only as long as they wish to work for you means that you need to work as hard to develop them and keep them interested as they do to fulfil the objectives you set them.
